Return to Late 2000s/Early 2010s: Real Madrid to Get Navy Away & Black Third Kit For 23-24 Season

In a surprising change, Real Madrid will have similar colors for 2023-24 away kits and third kits. Footy Headlines can now 100 100% confirmed.

Real Madrid 23-24 Away & Third Kits

The 2023-24 season will see Real Madrid opting for the navy away kit as well as an all-black third kit. The decision will raise eyebrows with both pundits and fans alike since it seems to defy the usual goal of bringing contrast and avoiding clashes of colors with rivals.

Its white kit for home as well as an away jersey in navy as well as the black third kit appears to not be able to differentiate enough for certain opponents. For example in a hypothetical game with Newcastle United or Juventus, Real Madrid would be left without a suitable kit to wear, because Newcastle and Juve wear black and white.

This unusual choice triggers memories of the 2000s and the early 2010s when Adidas also offered Madrid in the third and away kits, which were identical in terms of color and design (the 22-24 kit sport distinctive designs, while the 23-24 kits do not).

Bayern Munich 2023-24 Home & Third Kits

Real Madrid is not the only Adidas club with two similar colors of kits. Bayern Munich will have two kits that are remarkably similar in color: a white/red home kit as well as an off-white, dark red, and white third kit (to be worn during the Champions League, possibly also during the home games).

The choice to offer two kits without contrast could be seen as a departure from tradition for away kits and the third that is to give teams alternatives in the event of colors clashing with their opponents.

It is still to be seen how Real Madrid and Bayern Munich can navigate possible color clashes, and make sure that their kits are distinct enough to prevent miscommunication on the pitch. In the end, there’s the possibility of wearing an old kit from the previous season.
