Tottenham Hotspur have launched a Legacy Number initiative to pay tribute to all players that has ever played for Tottenham Hotspur at a competitive senior match.
TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR LAUNCHES LEGACY NUMERO INITIATIVE TO Honor every player in the club’s history
Beginning with their next Premier League match against Crystal Palace on Friday Spurs players will be wearing the same shirts, with their unique “legacy number” as a neck feature. This initiative has seen each team member in the history of the club beginning with the first match played in the senior competition, which took place in October of 1894, given an individual number from 1 up to 879. The initial 11 numbers were allocated alphabetically to players who comprised the initial starting XI, which was 129 years back.
The most current Legacy number, which is 879 belongs to Alejo Veliz who was the club’s most recent debutant back in September.
Tottenham definitely got their inspiration from the concept of England’s national team. They unveiled Legacy Numbers in November 2019.
What are your thoughts on your thoughts on the Legacy Number initiative? Do you think other clubs should follow?
